My name is Isabel Martinez. I am 18 years old and a senior at Forsyth Central High school. I am a member of the STEM program at my school and have completed the biotechnology pathway. I have cheered on the Varsity coed competition cheer team for three years and the Varsity sideline team for two years. I was voted cheerleading captain for my sideline cheer team my senior year. I will attend the University of Georgia and pursue a biological engineering degree in the fall. I want a career in which I am able to work with children in the medical field.
I was very interested in the Honors Mentorship Program and it has taught me many things. I have been given the opportunity to develop my communication skills and have hands on experience with patients. I have also been able to develop good time management skills. Throughout my internship, Occupational therapy and Orthotics have stuck out to me the most. I decided to major in biological engineering to one day pursue a career similar to that of Orthotics and Prosthetics. I also was able to develop my interviewing skills by participating in a mock interview.
I was truly touched by this experience and enjoyed watching the love and passion my mentors expressed to their patients. I also enjoyed sharing this same feeling with the patients as I continued to work with them week after week. By the end of my internship, I was able to effectively communicate and work with the patients. I began to ask thought provoking questions and observe deeper into situations.
